Lagos State Government Has Threaten to Shut Down Ikoyi Marriage Registry
The Lagos state government has threatened to shut down the Ikoyi Marriage Registry over environmental nuisance caused by indiscriminate
parking. The government also called for an immediate solution to the problem by owners of illegal structures and vehicles within the area.
The state government's threat comes after the Lagos state governor Akinwunmi Ambode approved the commencement of enforcement of the clean-up of the inner streets of Ikoyi, Victoria Island and the Lekki environs. Speaking on Monday, March 27, the chairman and secretary to the Lagos state government Tunji Bello said the directive became necessary to help restore the original plans of the areas.
He said it will also ensure a sustainable environment for residents.
“The governor gave the go-head after receiving a briefing from the committee on the completion of the first stage of the exercise which involved the major streets," Bello said.
Also, addressing a world press conference at the Banquet Hall in Lagos House, Ikeja, the co-chair of the Lagos @ 50 Planning Committee Habeeb Fasinro said the final lap of the celebration would kick off on Saturday, April 8.
Fasinro said the event will also continue on Saturday, May 27 as many events have been lined up for the celebration and carefully selected to tell the story and journey from 1967 when the State was created till date.
He said the event would kick off on April 8, with a special Musical Play tagged “Wakaa” produced and directed by ace producer and director, Bolanle Austen-Peters at the Muson Centre, Onikan Lagos.
